Dry Needle Therapy
Dry Needling is a modern, Western-medicine based technique used by PTs, sports therapists, and massage therapists to treat musculoskeletal pain and movement problems. It invloves the insertion of a thin, sterile, solid filament needle directly in the muscles, tendons, or connective tissue. By stimulating the dysfunctional areas, this process aims to release myofascial trigger points and reduce pain, tension, and inflammation, thereby restoring normal muscle function and improving range of motion. This treatment in generally integrated with other massage techniques as part of a comprehensive rehabilitation plan.
Techniques unique to Dry Needling
The needle is inserted directly into the trigger point deep in the muscle
The goal is to elicit a local twich response which is an involuntary contraction of the tight muscle band.
The massage therapist may quickly move the needle in and out of the tissue to locate and stimulate the trigger point until the muscle relaxes
Treats deep muscle areas that are often inaccessible with hands or surface tools
Therapeutic Benefits
Immediate pain relief in the applied areas
Significantly increases flexibility and joint range of motion
Promotes faster recovery from injury or chronic tightness
